Andres Soto is a research analyst for First Light, supporting the firm’s senior research analysts and senior portfolio manager in the execution of the firm’s investment processes, including analyzing prospective and existing portfolio investments.
Soto brings more than 21 years of experience across several roles within the investment and financial services industries. Prior to joining First Light, he was the assistant director of new ventures at Columbia Technology Ventures, considered one of the most experienced technology-transfer offices in the world. In this role, he led teams evaluating emerging health care, information technology (IT) and engineering technologies, as well as identified and managed investments for the office’s Validation Fund, which provided funding for proof-of-concept studies and start-up formation. He also managed a portfolio of spin-off companies and led efforts to drive new transactions. Earlier in his career, Soto was a partner at The Totius Group, which was formed to incubate and seed early-stage companies. Prior to this position, he was assistant vice president of Latin America banking and marketing for Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. Soto’s professional experience also includes internships at Whitebox Advisors, LLC and Thrivent Asset Management. Soto graduated from Williams College with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish literature and currently is pursuing a master’s degree in financial mathematics from the University of Minnesota. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) designation.
